TheraFace Mask Glo review: I tested the LED mask for 12 weeks

Want to improve your skincare routine with a high-tech device you can use at home? The TheraFace Mask Glo is one of the newest LED light therapy tools to hit the beauty world. It promises to make your skin clearer, brighter, and smoother in just 12 minutes a day. The cordless mask uses red, infrared, and blue light therapy to help with common problems like fine lines, redness, and bacteria that cause acne.

It has 500+ medical-grade LEDs and covers your whole face, so it aims to give you clinic-style light therapy from the comfort of your own home. It also has Therabody’s VibraWave technology, which gives you a gentle scalp massage while you wear the mask. If you’re looking for the best LED face masks, this one has probably already caught your eye.

But does it really work? I used the TheraFace Mask Glo every day for 12 weeks to see if it really makes skin tone better, redness go down, and fine lines softer.

How we tried out the TheraFace Mask Glo

Icon for Pause

Isabelle wore the TheraFace Mask Glo every day for 12 weeks.

I used the TheraFace Mask Glo every day for 12 weeks, usually in the evening after washing my face and not putting on any other skin care. This was my first time using an LED mask, so the results are only because of this product. My skin had never had LED therapy before. I’m 28, and my biggest worries are scars from acne on my chin, redness on my cheeks, and fine lines on my forehead.

What are the differences between the TheraFace Mask and the TheraFace Mask Glo?

Tim Roberts, MSc, a Therabody scientist, said that the TheraFace Mask Glo was made to give the same high-quality, effective skincare as the TheraFace Mask but at a lower price. Like TheraFace Mask, TheraFace Mask Glo is cordless and hands-free. It uses clinically proven LED light doses to cover the whole face and scalp massage through VibraWave Technology. But there are other benefits besides the price. TheraFace Mask Glo is a lighter, more breathable face mask that was developed with the help of the largest clinical trial in its category.

What comes with the TheraFace Mask Glo?

You will find everything you need to get started right away inside the box. The TheraFace Mask Glo device is the main attraction, along with a USB-C charging cable and a protective eye shield to make sessions more comfortable.

One thing to keep in mind is that it doesn’t come with a storage bag like some LED masks do, so you’ll have to be careful about where you put it when you’re not using it.

What good things did I see when I used the TheraFace Mask Glo?

After 12 weeks of using my mask every day, I started to see my acne scars fade. I haven’t seen it help active spots, but the scars I’ve had for years were noticeably less noticeable. I also noticed that the redness on my cheeks got better. It used to be there all the time, from my cheekbone to my chin. I’ve also seen small changes in the fine lines around my eyes, but none in the lines on my forehead or 11 lines. Just so you know, I’m a chronic frowner (I promise I’m happy!) and my facial expressions are pretty over-the-top.

Before you put on the TheraFace Mask Glo

When you use the TheraFace Mask Glo,

My skin’s health has definitely improved. I’ve been using it over the winter, when my skin usually looks dull AF, and I’ve been able to keep a little glow, which I think is because of the mask. I have those annoying bumps on my cheeks and jawline, but I only have a few left, which is amazing because no moisturiser, serum, or magic potion has ever been able to get rid of them.

How long will it take for me to see results from the TheraFace Mask Glo?

Therabody says that “both visible and measurable improvements were observed after eight weeks of daily use, with further enhancements noted at 12 weeks.” I think you’ll be able to see the biggest difference after 12 weeks of using the mask every day.

Does the TheraFace Mask Glo really do what it says it will? The Women’s Health decision

Yes, it does. I’ve seen the most improvement in the overall colour and texture of my skin, but I want to stress how important it is to be patient and stick with it. Without those two things, you won’t see results. It hasn’t made my frown lines go away completely, but it’s not a miracle worker and won’t stop my facial muscles from moving. It’s important to note that the small change I’ve noticed in the fine lines under my eyes is visible, and I hope that this will get better over time.

If you’ve always had trouble with red patches and small bumps on your cheeks (like I have), this is the only thing that has worked for me. I’m not saying they will go away completely, but I’ve seen a big drop in them.

Questions and Answers about the TheraFace Mask Glo

How does this compare to a professional device or an LED facial in a clinic?

The largest known clinical trial of any commercially available LED mask, with 104 subjects, supports TheraFace Mask Glo. “This is above and beyond what the FTC requires, and it sets a new standard for safety and effectiveness that sets it apart from competitors with smaller or less clear studies,” Roberts says. “In-clinic LED facials will give you about the same amount of light as the TheraFace Mask Glo. You need to use it every day to get the benefits; one session won’t do much. In professional medical settings, there are other light therapy devices that are more invasive and need to be used by a doctor to make sure they are safe.

What does LED light actually do to the skin?

Roberts says that LED light therapy sends different wavelengths of light to the skin, and each one has its own benefits. Red light helps the body make more collagen and lowers inflammation, which can help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. The combination of red and infrared light goes deeper to improve tone, texture, and radiance by boosting blood flow. Lastly, blue light kills bacteria that cause acne and may also help with inflammation.

Do I need to change anything about my usual skin care routine?

Roberts says, “Yes, you will get great results if you keep up with your normal skincare routine after using the mask.”
